Maestro
Maestro is a music game prototype inspired by Audiosurf. The game converts an MP3 file into a level (essentially a smoothed amplitude graph) and challenges the player to match the mouse movement speed to the graph height.
The goal here was to allow the player to “dance on the desk”, jamming out to music in a low-key but fulfilling way. It worked well for some songs, but the level creation algorithm wasn’t sophisticated enough to handle a wide variety of music. Besides that, the game ultimately fell prey to my only complaint with Audiosurf: any sort of challenge or negative feedback seems to contradict the free jam feeling that I ultimately want to achieve.
The prototype is unavailable for public download due to copyright and syncing issues.
